The Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki is also of great interest, as it holds and interprets artifacts from the Prehistoric, Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods, mostly from the city of Thessaloniki, but also from the broader region of Macedonia.

Male visitors have the unique opportunity to visit Mount Athos, which occupies the third peninsula of Halkidiki, home to 20 monasteries. It is an important center of Eastern Orthodox monasticism. Mount Athos has been inhabited since antiquity and is known for its long Christian presence and historical monastic traditions, which date back to at least AD 800 and the Byzantine era. Today, over 2,000 monks from Greece and many other countries, including Eastern Orthodox countries, lead an ascetic life in Athos, isolated from the rest of the world. 

The nearby village of Ouranoupolis and the island of Ammouliani, with the famous "Alykes Beach", also attract many tourists every summer.

Meteora is a destination of exceptional natural beauty. It consists of enormous unique columns of rock, which rise precipitously from the ground, "reaching for the sky". 

These "rocky pillars" host one of the largest and most precipitously built complexes of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. Six monasteries, of an original twenty four, are built on the top of these rocks. 

This magical scenery has drawn the attention of millions of tourists and some famous film directors.

There are numerous wineries producing wines of exceptional quality in Western, Central and Eastern Macedonia regions. Most of them are open to the public for tours and wine tasting. The close-by cities of Drama, Kavala, Amyntaio, Epanomi and  Naoussa are of special interest, as their wines have won multiple prizes in international wine fairs.
