KONSTANTINOS MICHALAKIS, DDS, MSC, MSc, PHD, FACP

Dr. Konstantinos Michalakis graduated from the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1989. In 1990 he began his residency in Prosthodontics at Tufts University, Boston, from where he graduated in 1993. In 1996 he started working towards his doctorate degree in the Department of Prosthodontics.  He was awarded his PhD degree in 2001. In 2004 he became Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics,  after  taking written and oral examinations. In 2006 he enrolled in the Department of Bioengineering of the University of Strathclyde, UK, and in 2008 was awarded the degree of Master of Science.  In 2016 he completed the   

Executive Leadership program for Healthcare Professionals (Sloan Program in Health Administration) at Cornell University, U.S.A. He has also completed a  Master of Science degree in Experimental and Translational Therapeutics program at the University of Oxford, UK. 

Until the end of 2021 he retained the position of  Full Professor and Director of Postgraduate Prosthodontics at the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki,  and the position of Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Postgraduate Prosthodontics at Tufts University. In January 2022 he assumed his duties as Professor and Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials, at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University, Boston, MA. He has given more than 70 lectures in Greece and abroad, and he has written  70 articles on subjects of his specialty. He has more than 1300 citations. He is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Prosthodontics, BioMed Research International, and Case Reports in Dentistry. He is an ad-hoc reviewer in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, the Journal of Prosthodontics, the Clinical Oral Implants Research, the Clinical Oral Investigations, the Journal of Engineering in Medicine, the Journal of Biomechanics, the RSC Advances in Medicine and the International Journal of Dentistry. He is a member of the Education and Research Committee of the International College of Prosthodontists. He is an associate fellow of the  Academy of Prosthodontics and a member of the committee of affiliate members of the same society. He is a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists.

He has supervised one doctoral dissertation and more than 15 postgraduate theses. He has received scientific research grants from Nobel Biocare, as well as from Adin Dental Implant Systems Ltd. 

 He is an external examiner at the Otago School of Dentistry in New Zealand, and he has collaborated with the following universities: Tufts University (USA), Boston University (USA), Northeastern University (USA), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), University of Otago (New Zealand), University of Cambridge (UK), University of Oxford (UK), University of Geneva (Switzerland), University of Bern (Switzerland), University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany), University of Milan (Italy) , University of Padua (Italy), Universitat Internaciοnal de Catalunya (Spain).

Dr. Eleni Karaoglani was born and raised in Xanthi. In 2006, he was admitted to the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), from where she graduated in 2011. In 2012 she was admitted to the 3-year Postgraduate Prosthodontics program of the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and she was awarded the MSc degree summa cum laude. Her clinical interest is focused on the aesthetic smile makeover, using he most modern techniques and materials. Dr. Karaoglani deals with demanding prosthodontic cases referred to her. In addition to her specialization in Aesthetic Dentistry and Implant Prosthodonticss, she has been certified for the Invisalign method (Align Technology Switzerland GmbH) (orthodontic treatment with transparent braces). She has also received a certification for the use of Botox (injectable botulinum toxin) and Derma Fillers (injectable Hyaluronic Acid) from the Facial Aesthetic and Rejuvenation Academy of Greece (FERA Greece). In her MSc experimental project she studied the influence of teeth preparation on the distribution of stresses on all-ceramic veneers, and to this end she collaborated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Since November 2016, she has been a PhD candidate in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Polytechnic School of the University of Western Macedonia. The subject she is working on  includes a bio-realistic/dynamic model of finite elements of a human mandible,  in order to optimize the surgical placement of dental implants. During her studies she has participated in many postgraduate seminars and conferences,  following all the trends and developments of Prosthodontics and related sciences. She has also participated in Scientific Dental Conferences as a speaker, and she has published several articles in international scientific dental journals, such as the Journal of Dentistry, Journal of Prosthodontics etc. She is a member of the Dental Society of Northern Greece (S.E.B.E.) and the Hellenic Academy of Aesthetics and Facial Reconstruction and a subscriber to  many dental journals. 

Dr. Margarita Sidira graduated from the School of Dentistry of of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2012. In 2013 she began her residency in Prosthodontics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She was awarded the MSc degree summa cum laude.  She works as a Prosthodontist undertaking  complex restorative cases, both functionally and aesthetically. She is particularly interested in all-ceramic restorations in the aesthetic zone, as well as in the replacement of old restorations, which do not fulfill high aesthetic and functional standards.

Throughout her studies to date she has published several articles  related to her specialty, in international scientific journals. She has attended a series of aesthetic dentistry training seminars and participated as a speaker in international conferences, such as the Annual Conference of the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB), the  Annual Meeting of the European Prosthodontic Association (EPA) in conjunction with the 65th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Prosthetic Dentistry and Biomaterials (DGPro), Halle, Germany), and others. Her MSc thesis was entitled "Evaluation of titanium surfaces with different sizes and concentrations of silver nanoparticles, in relation to the viability of osteoblastic cell lines and their antibacterial action against the pathogen Porphyromonas Gingivalis ” and focused on the prevention of perimplantitis. For that purpose she collaborated with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Biochemistry  of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as with the School of Chemistry and Nanointegration of the University of Essen, Germany. Her scientific interest has been extended to the treatment of patients with congenital absence or malformation of the lateral incisors, participating to date in a series of research projects in collaboration with the Department of Orthodontics of the University of Geneva (Switzerland). She also studied the effect of various dental materials, that are widely used in dental clinical practice, on the pulp of the teeth. She also participates in the writing of a dental book entitled "Biomechanics in Restorative Dentistry".  In 2020 she received the title of Recognized European Prosthodontist, and her name was included in the list of recognized active Prosthodontists of the European Prosthodontics Association (EPA).

Dr. Dimitra Vasilaki graduated with honors from the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2016. In 2017 she started the specialty of Prosthodontics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, from where she graduated "Summa Cum Laude", She works as specialized Prosthodontist, undertaking very demanding restorative-prosthetic cases, which she works with the greatest attention to detail possible, giving her patients the opportunity to smile again with self-confidence. In addition to her specialization in Prosthodontics/Aesthetic Dentistry and Implant Prosthodontics, she is a certified Clear Aligners provider (orthodontic treatment with removable transparent invisible splints). 

She has published many papers, in internationally scientific journals with high impact factor, on topics of her specialty. She has attended a series of dental aesthetic training seminars. Moreover, she has given lectures in international conferences, such as the Annual Meeting of the European Prosthodontic Association (EPA), which was held in conjunction with the International College of Prosthodontists meeting (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), the European Prosthodontic Association (EPA) meeting (Athens, Greece), and the American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics (AAFP) (Chicago, Illinois, USA). Her masters thesis focused on the prevention of periimplantitis, a serious disease entity which can result in the loss of dental implants. For that purpose she investigated the therapeutic effect of silver nanoparticles and the effect of the latter on the gingival fibroblasts. For that research project she worked closely with scientists from other disciplines, such as Mechanical Engineers and Physicists. Her scientific interest extended to the metastatic mechanisms of cancer cells, and in this context she collaborated with scientists from the University of Oxford. In the framework of this collaboration she participated in a research investigating the effect of specific proteins in the treatment of certain types of osteosarcoma with silver nanoparticles. The results of this research proved to be really promising. 

She also participates in the writing of a scientific book entitled "Biomechanics in Restorative Dentistry".
