Dr. Konstantinos Michalakis graduated from the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 1989. In 1990 he began his residency in Prosthodontics at Tufts University, Boston, from where he graduated in 1993. In 1996 he started working towards his doctorate degree in the Department of Prosthodontics. He was awarded his PhD degree in 2001. In 2004 he became Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, after taking written and oral examinations. In 2006 he enrolled in the Department of Bioengineering of the University of Strathclyde, UK, and in 2008 was awarded the degree of Master of Science. In 2016 he completed the
Executive Leadership program for Healthcare Professionals (Sloan Program in Health Administration) at Cornell University, U.S.A. He has also completed a Master of Science degree in Experimental and Translational Therapeutics program at the University of Oxford, UK.
Until the end of 2021 he retained the position of Full Professor and Director of Postgraduate Prosthodontics at the School of Dentistry of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and the position of Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Postgraduate Prosthodontics at Tufts University. In January 2022 he assumed his duties as Professor and Chair of the Department of Restorative Sciences and Biomaterials, at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University, Boston, MA. He has given more than 70 lectures in Greece and abroad, and he has written 70 articles on subjects of his specialty. He has more than 1300 citations. He is a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Prosthodontics, BioMed Research International, and Case Reports in Dentistry. He is an ad-hoc reviewer in the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants, the Journal of Prosthodontics, the Clinical Oral Implants Research, the Clinical Oral Investigations, the Journal of Engineering in Medicine, the Journal of Biomechanics, the RSC Advances in Medicine and the International Journal of Dentistry. He is a member of the Education and Research Committee of the International College of Prosthodontists. He is an associate fellow of the Academy of Prosthodontics and a member of the committee of affiliate members of the same society. He is a fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists.
He has supervised one doctoral dissertation and more than 15 postgraduate theses. He has received scientific research grants from Nobel Biocare, as well as from Adin Dental Implant Systems Ltd.
He is an external examiner at the Otago School of Dentistry in New Zealand, and he has collaborated with the following universities: Tufts University (USA), Boston University (USA), Northeastern University (USA), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA), University of Otago (New Zealand), University of Cambridge (UK), University of Oxford (UK), University of Geneva (Switzerland), University of Bern (Switzerland), University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany), University of Milan (Italy) , University of Padua (Italy), Universitat Internaciοnal de Catalunya (Spain).
